There is also an accompanying parent guide aimed at enhancing family engagement. The story uses imaginative narrative elements to teach core SEL competencies including self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making. By creating a shared literacy experience, the story provides families with valuable opportunities for open dialogue, teachable moments, and emotional development. The parent guide complements the story by offering strategies for modeling SEL skills, encouraging receptive communication, and supporting children's emotional growth in a family setting. The integration of storytelling and family centered approaches in this initiative aims to strengthen emotional literacy and familial bonds. The overall goal of the storybook and parent guide is to promote lifelong social emotional skills in children, ultimately contributing to their overall well-being and resilience. Master of Science in Education emotional literacy | social emotional learning | healing from trauma	Kenneth Carano | Gregory Zobel | Ya-Fang Cheng Professional Project

Studying trichome density and distribution can provide insight to a plant’s response to drought stress and herbivore damage. We studied the trichome density of up to 20 leaves from each of 47 mature Quercus garryana (Oregon’s native oak tree). Trees were located in one of three habitat types: oak savannah, oak woodland, and mixed oak-maple-conifer forest. Preliminary results show bundles of four and two trichome clusters were present in higher amounts than bundles of three and single trichomes on the abaxial (lower) leaf surface in the savannah and forest habitat. A lower trichome density was observed on the adaxial (top) versus abaxial (lower) leaf surfaces. Our early results support the conclusion that trichome anatomy is highly variable between Q. garryana trees and may help to explain tree survival in different habitats. Biology Ava Howard

One example that demonstrates this is the 2011 Japan earthquake and tsunami event. Many reinforced concrete (RC) buildings failed during the event and were lifted off their foundations. This occurred because entrapped air within these buildings allowed them to be more susceptible to buoyancy forces. In addition, soil liquefaction appears to have destabilized their foundations allowing them to be transported by the waves. Seawalls also failed, possibly due to suction pressure near the crown of the wall. The return flow of the tsunami caused further damage because roads and foundations had been undermined by soil liquefaction. Beyond the damage to buildings, nearly 16,000 people lost their lives. The staggering loss of life and massive amount of damage occurred in a country that was thought to have “invulnerable” buildings and other structures built specifically for tsunamis. The 2011 Japan event illustrates the scale of destruction that can occur from an earthquake and tsunami of this magnitude. Even so, there are ways to minimize damage and prevent loss of life. For example, in Japan, breakaway walls, windows, and doors allowed water to flow into buildings, keeping them from being lifted from their foundation. Shadow zones behind RC buildings, protected weaker structures from being destroyed. New strategies are currently being developed to help minimize death and destruction from tsunamis. Studies of tree distribution are being used to lessen the forces associated with tsunami waves. Stricter building codes, improved infrastructure design and planning, and other mitigation efforts can save lives and promote resiliency for communities that may face an earthquake and tsunami of the size and scope of the Japan 2011 event. Earth/Physical Science Jeff Templeton

The bulletin beside the entrance is a pin up board covered with negress pinup girls. The round bunches on the tree in the left part of the picture are betel nuts (so I am told) and are chewed by the natives. They are said to be mildly intoxicant and discolor the teeth of the chewer, staining them red & giving them a perpetual 'pink tooth brush' appearance."
Maurice explained when you went to dispensary you went there because you weren't feeling well enough to work. The guys in charge of the unit would think that you were all goofing off if you took time to go to the dispensary. So if you didn't get sent to the hospital, they would put you to work cleaning M1 Garand rifles left over from WWI with gasoline so would be sure to be sick.

The creek is in a small ravine just to the rear of the men. On the opposite bank are telephone poles on the left and trailers on the right. For these graphs, we create an algorithm to run on a coded script that recursively runs criteria through an input graph from its matrix representation to check the 2-path, and will output either a success that our graph is a 2-tree Probe Interval Graph, or failure if it is not. After the creation of this algorithm, a complexity analysis for the algorithm will be developed, as well as the implementation of di_erent search criteria to hopefully reduce the complexity by some polynomial factor. The recognition for our set of graphs follows to the conceptual idea that triangles are built upon each other in a fashion of adding one vertex and two edges to a previous triangle in the graph. Each new triangle is added to an existing triangle and recursively builds the graph where the new vertex neighbors strictly two vertices with an existing triangle, creating a recursively de_ned 2-path. Honors Program Mathew Nanity | Gavin Keulks

This period of time is an important time for building a professional foundation. Research in other practice professions has shown that gradual transitions towards autonomy under adequate supervision and coaching provide a forum for practitioners to grow in their professional abilities with the support needed to guide them. The type of program used as a model in this study is the medical residency program where underclassmen learn a new skill from an upperclassman, practice this skill, and finally teach the skill to the next cohort. All phases are done under a competent professional’s observation. By conducting an action research project on my practice, benefits of this progression during an interpreter's formative years were delineated. The study was conducted to assess the benefits of cycling through learning, practicing and teaching phases with the oversight of a competent practitioner. The action research findings support the recommended progression of learn, practice, teach.	6/10/2022 Master of Arts in Interpreting Studies Elisa Maroney, Amanda Smith action_research

The old heating plant and laundry building, with the smoke stack. The stack was built in the 1940's when the heating plant underwent some remodeling.
Also showing is one corner, the NE corner, of Maple Hall.
For years the dormitory did its own laundry in this laundry, with its door to the East standing open. A portion of the Tulip tree is standing, showing much less height than in 1972.
The old plant, stack, and laundry were razed after the erection of the new heating plant in 1960."

The tree was "originally planted at the north end of the field hockey field, which is where the weight throw complex is now. When Stadium Drive was built in the mid to late 1980's, we built two new softball fields which is where they are now. We moved the tree again to it's present location. So, the tree was planted, then moved twice. All through this the tree has thrived," according to former landscape supervisor, Ron Cooper. While there is no permanent marker, Cooper notes that the original wooden plaque said "A Sweet Gum for a sweet girl." The tree is now located one the softball field west of campus.

Pickering graduated from Oregon College of Education in 1975 with a B.S. in Education. She played both softball and field hockey. One of Pickering's former teammates, Sherry Adams designed and burned the letters into the original wooden plaque.

Recognition algorithms of probe interval graphs can be broken down into two types of problems: partitioned and non-partitioned. A partitioned recognition algorithm includes the probe and nonprobe partition of the vertices as part of the input, where a non-partitioned algorithm does not include the partition. Partitioned probe interval graphs can be recognized in linear-time in the edges, whereas non-partitioned probe interval graphs can be recognized in polynomial-time. Here we present a non-partitioned recognition algorithm for 2-trees, an extension of trees, that are probe interval graphs. We show that this algorithm runs in O(m) time, where m is the number of edges of a 2-tree. Currently there is no algorithm that performs as well for this problem. 4	11	1	18 Mathematics

It is a mural about WOU culture, a journey, pointing to the future and storing the hope. The whole campus is a natural environment, covered by flowers and plants, so a rose was selected for the center of the design. The main red line represents intention and guidance, the grid represents a web and connects the icons together, illustrating a rigorous attitude toward education. A butterfly is used as a metaphor for the beauty of the campus, our colorful lives, freedom, and hope. The wolf is a part of WOU culture, symbolic of power and sports. A tree and plant remind us of the natural environment, fresh air of campus and the growth of WOU students. 2	Jen Bracy Jen Bracy
