Abstract
Egyptian historians rely on tomb paintings, a variety of temple inscriptions, and a small amount of papyrus documents such as the Rhind Papyrus. It has been documented that the oldest known example of a sundial dates from Egypt ca 1500 BC, as depicted below. Egyptians introduced the earliest fully developed base 10 numeration system at least as early as 2700 BCE (and probably much early). Written numbers used a stroke for units, a heel-bone symbol for tens, a coil of rope for hundreds and a lotus plant for thousands, as well as other hieroglyphic symbols for higher powers of ten up to a million.Unfortunately, it is thought the majority of information regarding Egyptian mathematics was lost when the great library of Alexandria burned in 48BC.

Abstract
John Wyclif and Jan Hus were two medieval theologians who concerned the majority of their work attempting to improve the Christian religion. They were labeled as heretics by the Catholic Church. Different levels of patronage played an important role regarding in the success/ failure of Wyclif and Hus. Wyclif did not die as a heretic and was only officially labeled as such after the condemnation of Hus at the Council of Constance. Hus on the other hand suffered because his lack of patronage and was burned at the stake as a heretic.

WWII-Natives/New Guinea.
Ink drawing of five natives digging a trench at the edge of heavy foliage.
Verso: "27 Dec 1944. These are the natives I told you about. They are digging drainage ditches for mosquito control purposes. While one works the others just stand around and watch. They do a good job but it takes a hell of a while to do it. One of them had a shovel on whose handle were burned the initials WPA. In the background are the tops of two officers tents and in the left background is their shower."

Trees on Campus
Description
This American Sweetgum tree was planted in memory of Oregon College of Education graduate, Carol Pickering, who died in an automobile accident November, 1975.
The tree was "originally planted at the north end of the field hockey field, which is where the weight throw complex is now. When Stadium Drive was built in the mid to late 1980's, we built two new softball fields which is where they are now. We moved the tree again to it's present location. So, the tree was planted, then moved twice. All through this the tree has thrived," according to former landscape supervisor, Ron Cooper. While there is no permanent marker, Cooper notes that the original wooden plaque said "A Sweet Gum for a sweet girl." The tree is now located one the softball field west of campus.
Pickering graduated from Oregon College of Education in 1975 with a B.S. in Education. She played both softball and field hockey. One of Pickering's former teammates, Sherry Adams designed and burned the letters into the original wooden plaque.
The image shows the tree on the other side of the chain-link fence next to a red scoreboard.

Paillaco hills east of Caburgua
Creator
Rector, John Lawrence, 1943-
Description
This image is one of many of the snags left by an immense fire in the 1940s that burned the forests of southern Chile. According to local residents, the fire coincided with the blooming of the quila, a vine-like bamboo that dies after going to seed. This raises fire hazzards and causes an explosion of the rodent population.

Description
Fires in the 1940s burned many of the Chilean forests. Until the late 1960s landowners often used "roce a fuego" (slash and burn) to clear land they wanted to plant with a grain. In 1980 the Ministry of Agriculture established strict criteria for "roce a fuego."
