Abstract: Interpreters can have twenty years of experience or twenty iterations of one year of experience. The most incredible interpreters create true dynamic equivalence across languages, cultures, and settings. The ability to create a seamless flow of communication stems from a drive to never stop learning. This article recognizes the long lasting impact of Pat Smartt’s interpreting career. Smartt is a paragon of educational interpreting in the state of Alabama. Smartt’s fervent diligence models the commitment to interpreting excellence that all interpreters should seek to emulate.
