Abstract: This action research project presents findings on the manifestations of “belonging” within the field of American Sign Language (ASL) and English interpreting. A mixed-method approach is used and focuses on evaluating and identifying the influences and themes of belonging and how the experiences of an individual shape it. Findings relate to emphasizing professional and emotional support based on authenticity, inclusivity, and acceptance alongside consistent and stable working conditions. The researcher emphasizes a “sense of belonging” as a vital portion of interpreter well-being, and she promotes its essential consideration, especially for novice interpreters.
