Abstract
Humanistic Learning Theory (HLT) is a psychology-based learning theory. It prioritizes teaching the whole of a child within their academics. The research conducted in this paper strives to answer the question: How can I incorporate intrinsic motivation in students and teach the whole child in a theatre classroom setting? I spent two weeks teaching in a theatre classroom. I implemented teaching methods that encouraged student autonomy to increase their intrinsic motivation and engagement. I prioritized Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) to teach the whole child. From the data I gathered, I conclude that HLT is beneficial for my students and me. It increases student autonomy, develops emotional bonds, and caters to their emotional needs. Students were engaged and excited about the coursework.
