Abstract
In this action research project, I explore the ways in which a multi-level theatre class can be structured to cultivate community efficacy through an examination of the effect of Indigenous pedagogical practices on students’ sense of belonging. I aim to use this action research project to identify pedagogical theories and instructional strategies that will support using the form of a combined theatre class to support its ideal function as a liberatory educational experience wherein students’ community efficacy is developed. The purpose of the project is to build on existing literature by connecting teaching concepts already inherent to my own classroom format to teaching practices that resist the oppressions inherent to the institution of schooling in the United States; namely, Indigenous ways of teaching and learning that are personal and holistic, experiential, place-based, and intergenerational.
