Abstract
-
Friendship is magic, at least that’s what they say. But are all friendships good ones? Growing up, I found myself in a strange streak of toxic friendships, constantly in search of a group of people who would finally appreciate me for who I was. Across my search, my own creativity and artistic capabilities always stuck by my side. Now that I have grown up and finally found a true group of friends, I want to impart my knowledge onto the younger generation to teach them what it means to be a good friend and how they deserve to be treated by their friends. My ultimate goal was to create a story that fully encapsulates my own experiences and what I have learned about what a true friend is, that children are able to learn from as they look to find the friends that are right for them. Putting my artistic skills and creativity to use, I created a children’s picture book centered around a girl trying to find her people as she navigates through the social world. This book explores themes of not only being a good friend to those around you, but also how you should be treated by a good friend. Following the book, is an extensive reflective paper including details of my creative processes and artistic influences, and insight into the publishing process.
