Abstract
-
Lesbian film is a genre and medium that is filled with patriarchal influence and internalized misogyny. Through the use of traditional mediums, such as oil paint and mixed media, this creative thesis project will explore, analyze, compare, and contrast lesbian relationships, identity, and experience within two films, Benedetta and Portrait of a Lady on Fire. Each painting in this body of work will represent one of the topics listed: love, society, invisibility, solidarity, or collapse. With these prompts in mind, these works will display figures, portraits, and landscapes that encapsulate the topic at hand within the film it’s assigned to.
Scenes from both films will be painted, and passages from Immodest Acts and other relevant writings will be included in the art as well.
