Description: A Kwanzan flowering Cherry Tree was planted in memory of Sharon McAuliffe. McAuliffe was a teacher from the East Coast, who was also a participant in the NASA Teacher in Space Project. She and six other crew members were killed in the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster in 1986. The tree is located on the west lawn of the Cottage.

The plaque reads "She dared to expand the horizon of education. In Memory of Sharon Christa McAuliffe A Teacher and the crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger January 28, 1986."
