Description
-
Manila, Philippines - WWII Drawings.
Nine pencil sketches of water buffalo with attention to form and shape.
Verso: "Summer 1945."
Maurice explained that these were study sketches. The farmers would let the calf nurse for a certain length of time. When they wanted to wean the calf, they would sharpen the ends of a piece of vine, cross it and tie it on the calf's face. When the calf went to nurse on the utter it would poke the mother and it would not allow the calf to nurse.
