A letter from Rachel Butler describing the health of the family and the death of a neighbor by typhoid fever. She also describes the last days and death of Elijah Butler after a long illness, and informs that Ira F.M. Smith was appointed as judge, and that church membership is growing. An addendum from Margaret Smith is regarding Elijah's will and the school in Monmouth.
