Train Illustrations - (Illinois to California) - WWII Drawings.
Three ink drawings of Utah landscapes made on the train while traveling to Marysville, California.
(1.) "Helper, Utah. These buildings were a part of some industry or other in Helper. The town seemed to be a coal mining center and there was a large railroad yard there."
(2.) "Great Salt Lake Desert. The picture below doesn't do the Great Salt Lake justice. To give a true picture I could have left the whole thing blank, but I waited till I got a little background. The desert is the whiteness in the foreground."
(3.) "Wendover State Line, Utah-Nevada. The approach to the town. There is an air field here hence the beacon on the rocks at the right hand top of the picture. It's a very small town an [sic] it's only excuse for living is the air field and the fact that it's a watering station for trains."
